Question: I think I might have a virus - what should I do?
|
Answer: Don't ever do something an email tells you to do until verifying
with someone or some authoritative site. Most emails are sent with good
intent but with little background information. |
There are really 2 things you should do regarding viruses.
1) Keep an updated virus protection program running on your computer.
2) Don't play around with files that are questionable.
There are also many hoaxes going around the email circuit. You should know
enough to find out the truth about the subject. If their was a national security
alert - I doubt that you would find out from an email that your friend sent
to you. And no, Bill Gates isn't going to give you a million dollars if you
forward that email to 10 people.
Question: Where can I read about something that I think is a hoax? (not
necessarily a virus - just something I got in an email)
Answer: http://www.urbanlegend.com is a site that has many stories that
have been passed along for years. They disclaim them and often tell of their
true origin.
Question: What is a good virus protection package?
Answer: I'm sure there are probably several. The one that I use is Norton
Anti Virus located at http://symantec.com
